Case Studies: Ice Carving

We can now sell table centerpieces at a price comparable with traditional floral arrangement and being able to have a student run these programs in the evening has increased both our productivity and profitability. It's my job to keep as efficient as possible, and the Bulldogs help me to do just that.

Eight years ago, we made the decision to invest in a CNC router to be able to expand our business. Our first operator had never switched a computer on let alone operates a CNC machine but he was able to contribute to our production with just three days of training.

We use the Bulldogs to produce a full range of ice designs - from simple shot glasses to multi-block projects; and 3D sculptures where we have mechanized the carving of all our popular designs - swans, salmon, lovebirds and so on and leave them for our carvers to finish off by hand (in about 15 minutes). We also have snow filled graphic designs known as our silhouette series, for seasonal and holiday events.

Our snow-filled logos are 100% accurate and once the artwork is completed we offer customers a price advantage for buying more than one at a time.

The Bulldog is also used to produce plates, platters, bowls and glasses and really shines when it comes to large multi-block structures which call for perfectly level surfaces. Our ice bars for example, we will include tongue and groove and interlocking components for safety - a big selling feature.

With large detailed structural sculptures such as important landmarks, the Bulldog shows off its versatility and its ability to handle fine detail.

“Cutting an E-bar on my Bulldog takes only minutes. This bar has components only 3 inches thick so accuracy is of paramount importance.”
